Chartered course, rising tide?
In 2010, then Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg gave the Newark, N.J. school system $100 million — a donation matched by others which made for a sum total of $200 million. Newark was then and is still the largest city in the state, and as of 2024, according to Money, Inc., had the third poorest neighborhoods. Those neighborhoods fit a textbook countrywide model of redlined inner-city sections left to rot economically with the one-two punch of white flight and Reaganism; Chilltown (or JC, if you will) was number eight on Money, Inc.’s list, with its two particular neighborhoods that follow suit.
