What exactly is doomerism?

It’s considered posting or consuming a seemingly endless amount of bad — or maybe more applicably depressing or “negative” — news.

And it’s not just that; it’s doing so with the idea that there’s nothing that can be done about any of the underlying trends this bad news speaks to.

But we’re not sure most entities who endlessly post or consume bad news necessarily do so with any keen sense that it’s part of some “futile” slide downward for society or the world at large.

No, people are more likely to consider anything that speaks to those underlying trends as doomscrolling, when consuming an endless stream of bad news is closer to the way algorithms engage potential readers or viewers.
